Gambella, Nekemte and Lalibela airports renovation completed

Addis Ababa, August 19, 2016 (GMN) - Expansion projects being undertaken in Ethiopia over 6 airports would be concluded in the current fiscal year, Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE) disclosed. This also includes Bole International Airport.

Commenting on the development Tewodros Dawit, CEO of the Enterprise, said 90 percent of the work at Shire, Semera, Robe, Jinka and Hawassa airports is concluded.

Other than these, EAE had renovated Gambella, Nekemte and Lalibela airports in the just concluded fiscal year, Tewodros noted.

The progress of Bole International Airport’s expansion has reached 25 percent while the civil engineering work has made 75 percent progress. Currently the airport is giving service for 8.5 million customers per year. However, upon completion this figure will grow to 22 million customers a year.

The just concluded year saw EAE generating half a billion Birr of net profit. The Enterprise would be working on non-aeronautical services, which currently are not generating enough income, Tewordos explained.
