Ethiopia to Host African Championship of Nations (CHAN) in 2020

October 02, 2018 (GCDC) - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that Ethiopia will host the next Total African Nations Championship (sometimes referred to as the African Championship of Nations (CHAN).

Although CAF has confirmed Ethiopia will host CHAN in 2020, the dates are yet to be confirmed,

CAF is set to hold a meeting with officials of the Ethiopian government to determine the appropriate dates for the championship. The meeting is expected to coincide with the African Union meeting at Addis Ababa.

Following the initial inspection in April 2018, the CAF delegation recommended stadiums inspection mission at the end of October 2018 to ensure that the prerequisites are met. The dates of the final tournament will be discussed with the Ethiopian authorities due to meetings of the African Union scheduled at the same time.” CAF said.

AFCON U23 and U20 will be hosted by Egypt and Niger respectively. The former is set to start on 8th November to 22nd of the same month. The Niger-based competition will be held early next year from 7th February to 17th February.

Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Niger are the teams that have qualified for the U-20 tournament.

With a membership of 54 countries, Egypt in, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa are founding members of CAF whose secretariat based in Egypt.

First announced on 11 September 2007 CHAn is a kind of competition which is played between the best national teams of Africa, exclusively featuring players who are active in the national championships and qualified to play in the ongoing season.
