Community Guidlines
ARTICLE I - PREAMLE
1.1 The Association:
The name of the association is the Gambella Community Association of Canada which may be referred to as (G.C.A.C) or association.
1.2 The Bylaws:
The Gambella Community Association has the general bylaws that regulate the conduct of business and affairs of the G.C.A.C.
ARTICLE II – OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION:
2.1.1 To facilitate successful integration and encourage full participation of the
Gambella Community members in Canadian society.
2.1.2 To promote understanding and cooperation between Gambella Canadians and all
other ethnic, cultural and racial groups in Canada.
2.1.5 To coordinate and organize social and entertaining activities for the members.
2.1.6 To promote preserve and develop the Gambella Community cultural heritage and
pass it down to next generation.
2.1.8 To raise funds to achieve the objects of Association. This includes accepting
gifts, donations, grants, legacies, bequest and inheritances.
2.1.10 To use funds of the association according to and in pursuit of these objects and
other charitable objects.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP:
3.1 Member:
An individual who is of Gambella descent is eligible to be a member
3.2 Admission of members:
Any individual may become a member by meeting the requirements in article 3.1.
The individual will be entered as a member in the register of members.
3.3. Membership Fees:
3.3.1 Membership year:
The membership year is June 1st to May 31st.
3.3.2 Payment date for fees:
The annual membership fees can be paid on monthly basis or at once at any time but before may 31st. (monthly $10 or annually $120)
3.4 Right and privilege of members:
3.4.1 any member in good standing is entitle to;
a) Receive notice of meeting of the association
b) Attend any meeting of the association
c) Speak at any meeting of the association
d) Exercise other rights and privileges given to members in these bylaws
3.4.2 Voting Members:
The only members who can vote at meeting of the GCAC are members in good standing who are at least eighteen (18) years old.
3.4.3 Number of votes
A voting member is entitling to one (1) vote at meeting of GCAC.
3.4.4 Member in Good Standing
A member is in good standing when:
Ø the member has paid or paying membership fees or other required fees to the association and
Ø the member is not suspended as member as provided for under one of the articles herein
3.5 Suspension of Membership
3.5.1 Decision to suspend
The GCAC at a special meeting called for that purpose may suspend a member’s membership for not more than three (3) months for one or more of the following reasons:
Ø if the member has failed to abide by the bylaws
Ø if the member has been disloyal to the association
Ø if the member disrupted meeting or functions of the association
Ø if the member has done or failed to do something about anything judge to be harmful to the association.
ARTICLE IV - MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION
4.1 Annual General Meeting (AGM)
4.1.1 the association holds its annual general meeting on later than may 30th of each
calendar year. The executive committee sets the place, day and time of the
meeting.
ARTICLE V- THE GOVERNMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION
5.1 The Executive Board/Committee

Vice-Chairman
Secretary
Treasurer
Auditor
The Executive Board/Committee will governs and manages the affair of the Association
5.1.4.1 Election of the executive board members
At the first of the AGM the members in each province or region elect one member to the executive board.
5.1.5 Meeting of the board:
5.1.6.1 The board holds six (6) meetings each year.
